I Can Problem Solve:
An Interpersonal Cognitive Problem-Solving Program for Children
by Dr. Myrna B. Shure
ICPS is both a preventive and rehabilitative program. It has proven to be extremely effective in helping children learn to resolve interpersonal problems and prevent anti-social behaviors. ICPS teaches children how to think, not what to think. Kids learn that behavior has causes, that people have feelings, and that there is more than one way to solve a problem. Impulsive students become better able to share, cooperate, and get along with others. Inhibited youngsters become more outgoing and better able to stand up for their rights. The program is based on 25 years of meticulous research. It has been field-tested extensively in schools across the country and has been shown to have impact on thinking and behavior in children as young as preschool age.
Three separate volumes for three developmental levels-provides numerous sequential lessons and reproducible illustrations, a teacher script and a list of readily available materials, (such as hand puppets, crayons, blocks, or age-appropriate story books), and the preschool volume also includes reproducible parent handouts to encourage and guide parent involvement and participation in ICPS.
