Configuration of Eudora Light, Netscape Messenger, and
Outlook Express
|

This document contains information for the configuration
of Eudora Light, Netscape Messenger, and Outlook
Express. Should you find that these directions are not adequate or
that you are having other difficulties with the software, you may contact
Technical Support at 530-750-0101.

Configuration of Eudora Light
|
|
Load up Eudora Light.
Go to Tools and then Options. You should see something that
looks like the screen shot to the right. Under the Pop Account
field, put your e-mail address. You have the option to fill out the
Real Name and Return Address fields but neither are
required.

Click on Hosts
in the left pane of the Options window and you should see something
similar to the screen shot displayed here. The only field you need to
modify here is the SMTP field. Type in smtp.dcn.davis.ca.us
and you are set. Click on Ok to close the Options window. Go
to File and then Check for new mail to see if Eudora is set
up properly.

Configuration of Netscape Messenger

Load up Netscape and then
go to Edit and click on Preferences. On the left pane, find
an option called Mail & Newsgroups and expand it by clicking on
the '+' next to it. Click on Identity. The only required field on
this screen is E-mail address. As soon as you have filled that out,
you may optionally put in any of the other fields.

Click on the Mail
Servers option in the left pane. In the area labeled Incoming Mail
Servers you will need to click on Add... When the new window
pops up, you will need to complete 3 fields. Under Server Name,
type in pop.dcn.davis.ca.us. Under Server Type, select
POP3 Server. Finally, under User Name, put in your username.
Optionally, you may select the Remember Password option so that
Netscape does not ask for your mail password every time you load it up.
Click Ok. One more field to go. Under Outgoing mail (SMTP)
server, type in smtp.dcn.davis.ca.us. Click on Ok and
you are set. Go to Communicator then Messenger to load
Netscape's mail client, and then go to Get Msg to check for mail.

When you run Netscape mail in version 6 for the first time, you
will see the setup wizard that you will have to run through in order to estabilsh
Netscape 6 as you mail client. It's a relatively easy process that only need you
to know of a couple key things. These instructions will show you what to plug in
the wizard, and where.
There are just a few screens that are presented here to save on space,
but they are the screens with the key peices of information to be entered in to the configuration.
Make sure that you choose ISP or email provider in this screen:

First the incoming mail server area. Make
sure that the pop-up menu remains at POP Mail Server, the set the server name to
pop.dcn.davis.ca.us. In the Outgoing Server area, type in smtp.dcn.davis.ca.us.

The last critical screen, this one asks for
your username, which is the first part of your email address (before the @ symbol).
|

Follow the rest of the instructions from the
wizard, and you should have email up and running in no time. You're done when the last button
you click on is labled Finish.

Configuration of Outlook Express
|
|
Load up Outlook
Express and then go to the Tools Menu and select Accounts.
You should get a screen that looks similar to the screen shot displayed
here. You will need to click on Add and then a pop-up menu will
show itself. Select Mail. The Internet Connection Wizard
will pop up and ask you for your name. After typing in your name, hit
Next and you will then be asked to enter your e-mail address. Hit
Next after doing so and then it will ask for e-mail server names.
Make sure that your mail server is specified as a POP3 server. The
incoming (POP3) server to put in is pop.dcn.davis.ca.us. The
Outgoing (SMTP) server is smtp.dcn.davis.ca.us. The next screen
will ask for a "Friendly Name" for this mail account, and you can type in
whatever you like. For the next screen, you will want to choose Connect
using my phone line. The last screen will say "Congratulations!" and
you can hit Finish. To see if Outlook Express is configure
properly, go to Tools and Send and Receive. Any new mail you
have should go to your inbox.
