This page is designed to give instructions on setting up the RASPPPoE client for use with
Dynamic IP service over ADSL.
The first thing you'll need to do is download the RASPPPoE client from our Downloads section.
The current version of RASPPPoE is not compatible with the MacOS.
The RASPPPoE client is only compatible with Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME and 2000. Users of Windows 98SE may encounter
a bug that will prevent RASPPPoE from working once installed. Microsoft has provided a bug fix that can be
downloaded from this page.
There is no install application for RASPPPoE since it is written to act as a protocol instead of an application.
You will need to install the protocol from the network control panel, which we'll get to in a bit. Since there is no install
application, there a bit of preparation work that needs to be done.
After downloading the file, you will have something called RASPPPOE.ZIP on you hard drive. Windows can't install the
protocol from that file, so you will need to decompress it. If you do not have a program that can do this, get
Winzip, and install it.
Winzip will extract the files to the same directory as the raspppoe.zip files, so make sure that you put it somewhere on your
disk where you find it later. You might want to write down the exact path for later reference, like C:\raspppoe. You
should have 9 items, including the .zip file. If you don't see them all, you probably have Windows set to not show hidden file
types, like .sys or .dll.

Next, open up the Network control panel, and click on the install button. Select protocol in the Select Network Component
Type window, then hit the Add.... In the Select Network Protocol window, click on the Have Disk button,
then find the RASPPPOE folder you created earlier. Select any one of the .inf files, and hit OK. Next, select the PPP over
Ethernet Protocol and click on OK.

You may need your Windows CD for the installed to copy files from, so keep it ready nearby.
After the install is complete, a reboot will be needed.
After the reboot has finished, go the Start menu, and choose Run..., type in RASPPPOE and hit the OK button.
A new window will pop up. There should be your ethernet card selected as the adapter. If you only have one ethernet card,
the pop-up menu will be greyed out, otherwise choose the ethernet adapter that the DSL modem in connected to. Now click on the
Query available services button. You should see 3 options appear in the window. Choose any one, the click on Create
a dialup profile for this service button. This will create a dial-up connection profile in the Network and Dial-up
Connections folder in Win 2000, or in the Dialup Networking folder in Win 98. A shortcut will also be placed on the
desktop. The connection will be named something like Connection to sharps at omsoft-.... Find the connection icon
the appropriate folder, not the shortcut, and right-click on it to access its Properties.
In Windows 98, click on the Networking tab, the click on the TCP/IP settings button. In the next window, find
where it says Specify Name Server Address. Enter 168.150.253.2 as the primary DNS, and 168.150.253.1 as the secondary DNS.
Click on OK until you get back to the Dial-up Networking folder. Now double click on the connection icon, and enter the
username and password that you were assigned for your DSL connection. If you have an Omsoft.com or DCN mail address, those
usernames will not work for the DSL service, so don't use those. The password for the DSL service is also unique to the DSL
connection.
In Windows 2000, click on the Networking tab, then click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) line then click
Properties. Click on Use the following DNS server address: Enter 168.150.253.2 as the preferred server, and
168.150.253.1 as the alternate server. Now double click on the connection icon, and enter the username and password that you
were assigned for your DSL connection. If you have an Omsoft.com or DCN mail address, those usernames will not work for the
DSL service, so don't use those. The password for the DSL service is also unique to the DSL connection.
Connecting with the DSL over RASPPPOE is much like using Dial-up networking since it uses the same interface. Just hit the
Connect button in Win98, or the Dial button in Windows 2000, and you'll be connected. Applications like Internet
Explorer that connected automatically before will continue to do so. You should be all set up at this point and ready to use
your DSL connection.
